What factors affect the quality of a weld formed by RF (Radio Frequency) welding of thermoplastics?

TWI Frequently asked questions

by Anita Buxton

The quality of welds formed by the RF welding process are governed by a complicated combination of machine parameters (power output, frequency), the temperature profile and bar pressure, and the material type and thickness. The optimum conditions are normally judged by an experienced operator. The quality of welds are often determined by performing a pull test to assess the failure load of the weld, or by examining the weld bead created between the layers of welded material.
