What is nanotechnology?

A nanometre (nm) is 10 -9 metre. Therefore nanotechnology can be defined as the design, characterisation, production and application of materials, structures and systems by controlling and manipulating shape and size at nanometre scale (in the range of 0.1nm to 100nm).
