TWI is now able to offer a three-day training course in the use of an extrusion welder. This course gives the candidate an insight into plastics and why the various parameters are so important. The importance oflaying down a single pass hot gas weld prior to the extrusion weld is also explained, with hands on practice. A description of the extrusion process and the equipment is given to allow the welder to understand the process. Extrusionwelding trials in PP (polypropylene) also take place in various configurations, to mimic actual welding requirements. Alternatively, HDPE (high density polyethylene) can be used if preferred by the student.
