Background

This paper examines existing national standards for the classification of welding consumables for various welding processes and details the methods given for the preparation of weld metal specifically for chemical analysis. Only prominent national standards have been included in this survey.

The findings of the survey conclude that the multiplicity of procedural variations between standards necessitates work to produce a unified international standard detailing precisely the method of test pad production for chemical analysis.
