Weldability Of Stress Corrosion Resistant Stainless Steel: Interim Report

TWI Industrial Member Report Summary 13/1976

By J Honeycombe and T G Gooch

Background

A study of the welding behaviour of stress corrosion resistant stainless steels is described in this interim report. Two duplex alloys containing 26%Cr,5%Ni, 1.5%Mo and 18%Cr, 5%Ni, 2.7%Mo and a fully ferritic material with 26%Cr, 1%Mo have been welded in section sizes of about 10mm using a range of processes. Metallographic examination and mechanical and corrosion tests have been carried out. The application of different welding procedures is considered in the light of the results obtained.
