Knowledge Transfer Networks

Knowledge Transfer Networks (KTNs) aim to improve the UK's innovation performance by increasing the breadth and depth of knowledge exchange between companies, by bridging the gap between business and academia, by facilitating access to funding and by actively helping to broker successful partnerships for collaborative consortia. They are UK-wide, independent and impartial networks funded by the Technology Strategy Board. They underpin the Technology Strategy Board's strategy for business innovation as described in the new strategy document 'Concept to Commercialisation' published in May 2011.

Benefits

The benefits of the KTNs span all members of the relevant industry sectors from SME and micro-companies through academia to large enterprises. The synergy across the landscape is illustrated below. This model can also be used for international engagement for the benefit of UK business.

TWI provides the Directors for both the Energy Generation and Supply Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) and the HealthTech and Medicines KTN. It is also delivery partner of the Composites Group of the Materials KTN.
